The Prodigal Pencil Rediscovered

| Tuesday, September 9, 2008

Assalamualaikum,
Few months ago, I lost a very sentimental belonging which I've kept with me for the past 8-years. Somebody stole it from me. For many months I am left using another mechanical pencil which doesn't suit me and something still wasn't feel right. I lost hope of searching for a replacement and felt that Steadler finally stop selling that particular model here in Malaysia. I've even considered ordering it over the internet. This is why I like this pencil very much

  • Mechanical pencil for drawing and writing
  • ISO colour coding
  • Non-slip rubber grip zone
  • With metal clip, push-button and tip
  • Pocket-safe thanks to retractable metal lead sleeve
  • Cylindrical lead sleeve, ideal for use with rulers and templates
  • Cushioned lead for high level of break resistance

  • Easy to refill with "12-a-go" Mars micro carbon mechanical pencil leads
  • 4 line widths: 0.3 mm, 0.5 mm, 0.7 mm and 0.9 mm
It was with this particular model of pencil that I managed to excel in my Technical Drawing subject during SPM and in university. So no wonder that I missed my pencil very much.

While I was in Melaka last week, a visit to a bookstore inside Mahkota Parade prove to be fruitful as to my surprise that the bookstore still selling this type of pencil. I am so ecstatic to see it there. It comes in a set consist of Mars Micro mechanical pencil, "12-a-go" Mars micro carbon mechanical pencil leads and a dust free eraser.

Finally I own a Staedler Mars Micro again...

Menara Taming Sari Melaka

|

Assalamualaikum,

soon after the alien exhibition...

This new addition of tourist attraction is located near the Dataran Pahlawan at Banda Hilir Melaka was in our radar once we reached there last Saturday. This only gyro tower in Malaysia enables the tourist to have broad perspective view of Banda Hilir 110 meters from top.

click for bigger view of informations

After lining up at the counter, the attendent told us that the ride on the tower will cost us RM20 but if we produce our MyKad, only RM10 will be charged per pax. Looks like this MyKad has its use after all. Hiks.
This coach is a circular shaped compartment that will take us on top of the tower and rotate slowly to observe the scenery around Melaka. The ride will last approximately 7 minutes according to the attendant.

The view up here was spectacular and breathtaking. We can also see the shores and the sea of Straits of Melaka.

Soon after the ride, we headed to the Dataran Pahlawan shopping complex next to the Menara Taming Sari Melaka. It seems that they are having a Raya Show for Astro and some of their stars like Mawi and Mila was present. But I forgot to take photo of them. Hiks.

After that we went to pick a place to break our fast and chose Burger King. It was there that I met my ex-student, Ariffin. He told me that he is now studying in Technical University of Melaka. Good to know that my ex-student had the chance to further his studies.

Later we headed to the Jonker Walk which is situated at Jalan Hang Tuah in Melaka. This place is like the night market anywhere in Malaysia. This is where Sodep got his friends some souvinirs. Me on the other hand was too tired to enjoy the environment.

Got back home after that to end what was a very fun day at Melaka.

Until then, take care now bye bye then...

The Science of Alien Exhibition

|

Assalamualaikum

Last Saturday right after I finished work in the afternoon, I soon headed to Melaka for window shopping and Iftar somewhere there with Sodep. But as soon as we exited Ayer Keroh toll booth, suddenly my bestest friend remembered an advertisement about an exhibition The Science of Aliens which will be held at MITC, Melaka from 23rd August 2008 to 22nd of January 2009. So we decided to head there to see what so alien about it. Here is what the ad said...

"Do you believe in aliens? Have you ever looked up unto the starry sky and wondered if they exist and if they do what would you have to say if they communicated with us? The Science of Alien Exhibition is here to answer all you questions."

"Come on over for a closer interaction with aliens, alien worlds and other mysteries from beyond. Step into a whole new dimension and figure out for yourself if the truth is really out there. Wholly scientific, educational and interactive. The Science of Aliens Exhibition is sure to answer all your queries and leave you with more thought provoking theories than ever before."
The price of admission is RM 8 for adults, RM 4 for children and RM 20 for family package (2 adults + 3 children). The exhibition consist of 4 distinctive Zones; ZOne 1 : Aliens Fantasy & Imaginations, Zone 2 : The Science of Aliens, Zone 3 : Their World and Zone 4 : Communicating with them.
Zone 1 : Aliens Fantasy & Imaginations
In the first zone, we were greeted with a giant alien replica of the movie Aliens. There was a lot of ideas and imagination brought here especially from the movie industry ever since the 60's. Movies that applies the presence of aliens such as Aliens, Predator, Star Wars and even the famous E.T. There was also a actual size replica of a famous character in Star Wars, Ewoks. Aliens presence always have been associated with crop circles and there were several photos of them in this zone.

This alien was snoring when I was there...hehehe

Zone 2 : The Science of Aliens
This zone meanwhile offers factual stuff that can be related to aliens. We always assume that aliens come from outer space which is basically thousands of feet above us. But what we don't know, there are also species "alien" to us like in these photos. They exists in the ocean deep. Do you know that it is dark down there like it is in outer space? So they should be some kind of resemblance.I guess strange creature live in extreme places and conditions.

note: these creatures really exist, they are not man-made fantasies.

Zone 3 : Their World
In this particular zone, two high tech organism simulators are displayed to simulate what it would be like in a planet with different environments and living creature. The simulators are very high tech and uses touch sensor to let visitor experience themselves on conditions and characteristics of creatures in the simulated world. Very interesting.

Zone 4 : Communicating with them
In the final zone, there were three communicating machine which is suppose to project our message in a form of symbol because they said that aliens would have problem communicating in our language, so we were given a chance to send message in a form of 3 symbols. Mine was "Aliens", "Love", "Man", "?". I guess that sums the whole alien thingy.

p.s: hope the aliens won't misunderstand the message...hehe

6th day : Work On Saturday

| Saturday, September 6, 2008

Assalamualaikum,

Yes I am posting from my office on Saturday morning. Yup, have to work. This should be the last replacement Saturday class in order to extend the Eid holiday at the end of this month. Fortunately, I will only be working half-a-day and I intend to go shopping afterward with my bestest friend who is still snoring his way after Sahur this morning. Unfortunately for me, his act of Darth Vader have kept me not having enough sleep yesterday. Huhuhu.

Anyway, since I am in a very good mood to work today. As soon as I opened my beloved blog, I noticed my Msjbox tagboard have a new promotion lying around, and my account is near its expiring date.

click the banner for more info

So I took this opportunity to make my long-not-seen friend Junaidix a little bit more richer today. Hiks. So the next payment should until the next 4 years la... Although not many people leave their messages there, but I really appreciate it as I have been using it ever since I started blogging and still remember the times when it all started as I was one of those pioneer people who used this tagboard. For those who are not familiar, this tagboard is the best I've seen in the market because it is customizable to any blog template design. [Tengok Jun, aku tolong promote lagi nih...hahaha].

Time flies and it is almost a week that we gone through Ramadhan. Gotta go...got work to do. Happy fasting...

p.s: correction...I'd renewed the account for 3 years +24 months free...that makes 5 years.. Sorry Jun.

3rd Day : Surviving...

| Wednesday, September 3, 2008

Assalamualaikum,

Left home after Sahur at 5 am this morning for KMJ. I was predicting a hectic and tiring first day of fasting @ work. As Wednesday is my the day with most classes compared to any other day of the week. So today should be the benchmark of tiredness. Hiks. If I survive today, then any other days should be better.

Anyhow, my concern about getting groggy during work was way out of the question. I am very much awake right now (yeah right).

I will also experience my first time shopping food for Iftar at Tangkak's Ramadhan Bazaar. They told me it is situated at the same place as last year. Next to Tangkak's mosque. Gonna go with Miss Syahida today. Thinking of looking for those delicious Mutton Beriyani I used to have last year. Ayo...can't talk food right now...stomach grumbling really heavy right now. Acid kicking in. Huh.

2nd Day : Reality Check

| Tuesday, September 2, 2008

Assalamualaikum,

Today is the second day of fasting and I have done a little bit of reality checking before going back to work tomorrow. It seems that I really have to rapidly adapt myself to the situation. Even with the two days holiday, there is a high tendency of me getting groggy and go to sleep during daytime. I can't afford to do that on normal working days...hmmm. Anyhow, I won't have to wait long for the answer as I have no choice but to endure it tomorrow...wish me luck.

Ramadhan Bazaar

As for the Ramadhan Bazaar here in Keramat AU area, from my observations, the number of stalls is noticeably depleting compared to previous years. Last time it used to take the whole street and on both side of it. This time, only half-way through from the way it used to be and on only one side of the street. Hmmm. So my conclusion is that people here don't have much of a choice and the hawkers maybe turn to somewhere more profittable to them. Maybe sometime in the future I am going to try and give the Setiawangsa's Ramadhan Bazaar a visit and see how things are there.

Must have during Ramadhan - Tepung Pelita

Anyhow, for those who live nearby Keramat area, there is this one single stall which sells Tepung Pelita Asli and all I can say it was the most delicious tepung pelita I have ever tasted (last night of course) for a long, long time. It's gonna cost you RM2 for only 5 cups of tepung pelita (yes...price hike, used to be 6 for RM2). Why they call it asli or original? Mostly I think it is because the various ways of hawker preparing it nowadays. It seems that the tepung pelita have changed "container" from just banana leaf to various shape of plastics. I guess asli refers to the banana leaf container.

Because of it's deliciousness, I couldn't get my hands on today's tepung pelita. Finished by the time I got there. Bummer. So I turned my attentions to the nearby Samosa stall (5 for RM3). Hope it is as yummy as it's appearance.

Ok guys, time for Iftar. Gotta help my mom prepare the table. Selamat berbuka puasa everyone!!!

1st Day: Sahur Time

| Monday, September 1, 2008

Assalamualaikum,

I am writing this as soon as I finished my first sahur for this year's Ramadhan. This time around, our family started sahur at 4 am. How early is that? Hiks.

Solat Subuh is at 5.52 am and I still have time to drink a lot. Dehydration is what worries me a lot this year as the weather this time around tends to heat up a little due to the global warming earth is experiencing.

Other than that, due to the dehydration I am also normally will experience multiple mouth ulcer which is very...very painful. Especially when my mouth is extra dry...hehehe.

Allah, please give me strength to perform Ramadhan fasting this year. To all muslim around the world, happy fasting and happy blessed Ramadhan.

Done...for the time being.

Assalamualaikum,

First of all...Happy Merdeka Day to all Malaysians...

I just finished choosing and coordinating my blog again....this seems like the 5th time I changed the layout from one layout to another in one day and finally I chose this layout. Although something here doesn't seem quite right and I am somehow still unhappy with some part of it, I am obligated to accept whatever it is I have right now.

Alhamdulillah, one more day till Ramadhan comes in, hope this year I would be able to achieve what I always hope from Allah.

Renovations
