Partial Solar Eclipse Observation

| Monday, January 26, 2009

Assalamualaikum,

As most people know, today is when then partial solar eclipse occur. Since I am in Kuala Lumpur, the process started at approximately 4:31:32 pm, mid-eclipse at 5:50:42 pm and ended at 6:58:55 pm.

The Geometry of Solar Eclipse

Partial Solar Eclipse at Kuala Lumpur - Coverage 64.1%

Viewing the sun without safety filters can cause a permanent eye damage or blindness. Since I did not get myself an appropriate visual aid like the solar eclipse viewer or anything, I improvised by doing some research on the internet on alternative to view this magnificent moment.

And so I made a backyard science project on safe way to view. These are the steps I followed...

1. Prepare a piece of white cardboard, a piece of aluminium foil, a pin, a sheet of white paper, masking tape, penknife, scissors, ruler and pencil.

2. Cut an opening on the cardboard.

3. Tape a piece of aluminium foil over the square using masking tape.

4. Make a pinhole in the middle of the foil.
5. With the Sun behind you, hold the pinhole cardboard as far away from the white cardboard.
6. The farther you are from the screen, the larger image will be produce.

After following the instruction really carefully and improvising the techniques based on the available materials...here is the end product...

These are some of the images captured during the solar eclipse

Images projected from the foil onto the white screen

p.s : It was fun because you don't always do this kinda stuff. Hehe

Kampungku Berpesta!!!

| Sunday, January 25, 2009

Setelah log in, aku telah melihat satu animasi sedang berlaku didalam kampungku...sila lihat

Apa ek? Ada idea??

Love Story
Taylor Swift

We were both young when I first saw you
I close my eyes and the flashbacks start
I'm standing there
On a balcony in summer air

See the lights, see the party, the ball gowns
I see you make your way through the crowd
And say hello
Little did I know

That you were Romeo, you were throwing pebbles
And my daddy said, "Stay away from Juliet"
And I was crying on the staircase
Begging you, please don't go
And I said

Romeo, take me somewhere we can be alone
I'll be waiting, all there's left to do is run
You'll be the prince and I'll be the princess
It's a love story
Baby, just say yes

So, I sneak out to the garden to see you
We keep quiet cause we're dead if they knew
So close your eyes
Escape this town for a little while
Oh oh

Cause you were Romeo, I was the scarlet letter
And my daddy said, "Stay away from Juliet"
But you were my everything to me
I was begging you, please don't go
And I said

Romeo, take me somewhere we can be alone
I'll be waiting, all there's left to do is run
You'll be the prince and I'll be the princess
It's a love stor
Baby, just say yes

Romeo, save me
They try to tell me how I feel
This love is difficult, but it's real
Don't be afraid, we'll make it out of this mess
It's a love story
Baby, just say yes

Oh oh
I got tired of waiting
Wondering if you were ever coming around
My faith in you is fading
When I met you on the outskirts of town
And I said

Romeo, save me
I've been feeling so alone
I keep waiting for you, but you never come
Is this in my head
I don't know what to think
He knelt to the ground and pulled out a ring
And said

Marry me, Juliet, you'll never have to be alone
I love you and that's all I really know
I talked to your dad
Go pick out a white dress
It's a love story
Baby, just say yes

Oh oh oh
Oh oh oh oh

'Cause we were both young when I first saw you

Critical Friend & Buddies

| Thursday, January 22, 2009

Assalamualaikum,

Recently the matriculation administration decided to revive the Buddy System, a system to improve the implementation of PPSMI in educating maths and science subjects in english. The system is quite simple. A group of identified people among the lecturer were identified through a series of tests and even public speaking. These selected ones will be given several understudies to improve on their English, particularly in their subject field.

A meeting was conducted hence the initiation. The selected ones will be known as 'Critical Friend' while the understudies will be called 'Buddies'.

This new 'title' however cause me to rethink their meanings and the relations with our role in the Buddy System.

critical
adjective

  1. expressing adverse or disapproving comments or judgements.
  2. expressing or involving an analysis of the merits and faults of a work of literature or art.
  3. (of a situation or problem) at a point of crisis. Øextremely ill and at risk of death. Øhaving a decisive importance in the success or failure of something.
  4. Mathematics & Physics relating to or denoting a point of transition from one state to another.
  5. (of a nuclear reactor or fuel) maintaining a self-sustaining chain reaction.
I just hope that they mean like no 1 or no 2 in the dictionary. I can't imagine myself being in no 3. Hehe.

buddy informal, chiefly North American
  1. noun (plural buddies) a close friend. Øa working companion with whom close cooperation is required. Øa person who befriends and helps an Aids sufferer.
  2. verb (buddies, buddying, buddied) (often buddy up with/to) become friendly with.
I always thought buddy is more of a friendly title to give those who are helpful but in this Oxford dictionary, it seems that buddy is a person in dire need of help. Hiks.

A senior colleague of mine said that this system was once implemented but was a miserable failure. Let's just hope this time it will work better with some kind of observations in the process.

Bad Day at the Hospital

| Tuesday, January 20, 2009

Assalamualaikum,

Remember when we used to play this game back at the 90's? A game called Theme Hospital where we are suppose to manage a hospital with patients coming in and we have to delegate everything so that everyone is happy. I do...and I enjoyed playing it. I used to make every patients head covered with smiling icons.

Well, today I accompanied my Mama to a clinic in a university hospital somewhere in Cheras [no need to mention name here] and it was the most horrible experience I had ever since I started escorting my Mama to the same clinic for the last 10 years. If I was in that Theme Hospital game, there will definitely a Devil's icon over my head.

Here's what happened...

Woke up early to beat the traffic and get pole position to see the doctor. Even thought we knew that the doctors won't be in until at least 9.30 am, it is always important to beat others for the numbers. Mama said normally everything will be settled at 11 am. So we waited...

and waited...

and waited...

until we lost our patience.

We inquired the attending nurse and she said the doctor is in. But how come no number has been called ever since? What is he doing in there?

With a second inquiry, we discovered the specialist doctor have been attending to a allegedly critical patient of his from his private clinic in Kampung Baru. [Yes...government doctors tend to have more than one job]. Apparently the patient went through a back door and cut the queue. How can this happen? What is the point of coming in early and getting smaller number when later people comes in earlier?

With a lot of people fuming at this incident, a bold nurse suddenly challenged my Mama to lodge a complain by filling up a form on the wall. From the way I heard it, she challenged my Mama as if she was so sure that no action will be taken to prevent this in the future.

Irritated by the nurse arrogant reaction towards my Mama, I suddenly began to reopen my hidden skill which is to write rather convincing complain notes like I used to do at a shopping mall near my house...hehe. She better regret challenging my Mama like that. I hope she gets what she deserve for being utterly rude.

And so after 5 and a half hour of waiting, Mama finally got to see the doctor. Unfortunately, she did'nt see the doctor who made all the delay. She got her blood test results and her prescriptions. Went to the dispensary and got the meds and went back home with tiredness clearly visible on our face.

Ironically, we came just to consult about my Mama's joint problem, ended going back home with a higher level of blood pressure. Damn.

It is true what they say..."Sick people gets cured in hospitals but healthy people gets sick in hospitals"

Geng Sneak Peek

| Saturday, January 17, 2009

Geng : The Adventure Begins is the first Malaysian 3D CGI to hit the silver screen. As a Malaysian, I am very proud about this achievement. I understand that Upin & Ipin will feature in this movie. Les' Copaque achievement in producing fine animation in the Upin & Ipin series have led them to come up with the movie, Geng. Lets read some of the synopsis taken from their official website

This should be one of the most anticipated local movie that I have in mind. Unlike other movies here in Malaysia. Some of them I rather wait until they show it on TV during Raya. Hiks

As a symbol of my support towards this movie, I have placed a widget of the cute Upin & Ipin in this blog. Hiks.

New Layout

Assalamualaikum,

Upon searching for the most suitable simple 3 column blog layout, today I finally decided on changing my layout for the year 2009.

The theme was white and simple yet outstanding in terms of all the element in my widgets.

I am also hoping that this year I am more matured in my writings. Thus this simple and professional look comes in.

Welcome to the all new Ordinary Teacher.

Disleksia pon boleh jadi Polis

| Tuesday, January 13, 2009

Assalamualaikum,

Polis Diraja Malaysia, PDRM.

Tangan senget takleh masuk sebab takut salah tembak orang. Ketinggian tak cukup tak lulus sebab takot kena tinggal penjenayah bila ada adegan kejar mengejar. Muka tak hensem pon aku dengar tak lulus dah sekarang.

Pastu dah tau salah tolong-tolonglah senangkan idop orang. Tapi ini tidak. Disuruhnya Abah aku gi Bukit Aman kalau nak setelkan mender nih supaya dapat renew roadtax. Dah sampai sana, kata tak boleh setel gak. Kalau awal2 cakap kan senang. Telepon ada, konpemkan je la. Nyirapnya darah aku nih....

tetiba teringat pulak insiden-insiden lain melibatkan polis...

So aku slow sket dulu. Nasib baik aku tak langgar, tapi kalau dia tahan aku kat tepi memang aku takkan teragak2 nak cakap. Otak ada dalam helmet...tapi tak pakai. Huh!!

berbalik ke topik asal....

So dimanakah standard polis2 PDRM kita sekarang nih? Jangan sampai orang dah tak respect baru terhegeh2 nak ketatkan syarat pengambilan polis balik. Come on la...Earn the Respect not Force the Respect. Peace

E-Government my @$$

| Monday, January 12, 2009

Assalamualaikum,

Today is most probably the most stressful day of my life in 2009.

As most people experience last week, POS Malaysia was unable to carry out the renew of Road Tax at their counter due to lost of link between them and JPJ. The matter was spread out in the newspaper.

However today when my Abah went to JPJ to solve this matter they said that my Kembara had a summon that needs to be settle before the road tax can be renewed. So Abah thought that I have violated the highway speed limit.

And so he went to the nearest Police Station and enquire about the summon. The Kembara was accused of being summoned at Kulai Johor. However, ever since I drove Kembara, I never travelled along the highway at Kulai. All I did was KL - Tangkak and Tangkak- KL. Abah was annoyed with me thinking that I went somewhere without his knowledge.

Confirmation was acquired through a telephone call to the Kulai Police Station and they denied issuing any summon towards that Kembara. I even double check using SMS and confirmed that there was no summon at all. How can this happen in this so high tech government?

What I am pissed about is that they (JPJ, PDRM) treated my elderly Abah like a ball. Kick him around here and there while all this is their fault entirely. E-Government my @$$. All they can be proud of is having a high spec computer to show to people that they too can use computers but never make sure that the system is full proof and user friendly.

I am truly sad at this situation and hope that it can be resolved as soon as possible without making my Abah tired.

p.s : hope they can truly synchronize everything and access using computers rather than asking people to around without solving anything. damn...

Sorry, I'm back...

Assalamualaikum,

They say there is one rule in blogging...if you don't regularly update your blog...never ever give lame excuse. So I'm not gonna give any. There was just simply no time for my creativity to blossom and there is definitely nothing of the extra ordinary that happened to me these few couple of weeks.

However, when I opened up the msjbox community web just to check out what's new...something seems to interest me. The T-shirt design competition. Upon looking at some of those posted participation, I had a rush of ideas going through my brain and I started trying to put everything into place. Here is what I had in mind...

A simple black and white baseball design shirt. Since msjbox represents leaving a message in a box. I put one in front. As a community. I showed a hand grasping msjbox at the back. I wanted to put the word 'UNITE' at the bottom but I felt I am just going to cramp a lot of stuff into it and eventually make it look a little bit overcrowded. Other than that, I felt that the sleeves should be utilize to the fullest. The right sleeve will contain the address of the msjbox website while on the left sleeve, something familiar...a smiley icon which msjbox user often use to express feelings without using words.

There...my first entry since the layoff. I sure hope that I can write more often...only and only if my boss don't put every job available in the college on my table. I should go for a course just to say NO. Hehehe.

p.s: thinking of designing another one if I have time...hiks. Take care now bye bye then
